Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 19, 2026
1. Overview & Commitment
Speed Tracker is built with an offline-first, privacy-by-design architecture. We believe that your driving telemetry, location, and travel habits belong exclusively to you. The app does not require user account registration, login credentials, or personal identification.
2. Location & GPS Data Usage
- Foreground Location: When the app is open and active, high-precision GPS is accessed to calculate your instantaneous vehicle speed, altitude, heading, and distance traveled.
- Background Location: If you explicitly enable background tracking or lock your device during an active trip, the app accesses location data in the background to ensure continuity of your trip telemetry and safety speed camera warnings.
- 100% On-Device Storage: All GPS routes, waypoints, and speed records are stored locally in an encrypted private SQLite database on your physical device. We do NOT transmit, store, or sell your location coordinates or trip routes to external cloud servers.
3. Advertising & Monetization
Speed Tracker displays advertisements to support ongoing maintenance and feature development:
- Google AdMob: We use Google AdMob to deliver banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads. Google AdMob may collect and process device advertising identifiers (such as Google Advertising ID) and IP addresses to serve relevant advertisements. For more information, please visit Google's Advertising Privacy Policy.
- GDPR & User Consent: Users in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Switzerland are presented with the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent dialog upon startup. You may manage your ad preferences and revoke consent at any time via Settings → Privacy & Ad Choices.
4. Diagnostics, Crash Reporting & Performance
- Firebase Crashlytics: In the event of an application crash, anonymous crash diagnostic reports (including stack traces, operating system version, and device model) are collected to identify and fix bugs. No personal identifying information or GPS coordinates are included in crash logs.
- Opt-Out: You may toggle Crashlytics diagnostics on or off at any time within Settings → Privacy & Ad Choices.
5. Bluetooth & Vehicle Diagnostics (OBD-II)
- Bluetooth scanning and connection permissions are used strictly to communicate with standard ELM327 Bluetooth OBD-II adapters paired with your vehicle.
- Engine RPM, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), and vehicle telemetry are processed purely on-device and are never uploaded to any remote server.
6. Data Retention, Portability & Deletion
- Export: You have full ownership of your data and can export all recorded trips at any time in open standard formats (GPX, KML, and CSV).
- Deletion: You can delete any individual trip or permanently wipe the entire local database via Settings → Backup & Data Management. Uninstalling the application completely purges all local data.
7. Children's Privacy
Speed Tracker is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children.
