This privacy policy describes how the Speed Tracker Android app ("the App") collects, uses, and shares information. By using the App, you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Location Data

The App collects your device's approximate and precise GPS location while a trip is being recorded. This location is the core of the App's functionality: it is used to calculate your speed, distance travelled, average speed, max speed, and trip routes in real time.

The App may also request background location access so that trip tracking continues when the App is not on screen (for example, while your phone screen is locked during a drive).

Device / Usage Data

• Sensor data: The App reads motion sensors (accelerometer, magnetometer, rotation vector) to display a compass heading and a driving-quality score. This data is processed on-device and is not transmitted.
• App preferences: Settings you choose (units, themes, presets) are stored locally on your device.
• Trip history: Recorded trips (routes, speeds, distances) are stored locally in the App's database on your device. They are not uploaded to any server we operate.

2. How We Use Information

All collected information is used solely to provide the App's features:

• Real-time speed, distance, and trip statistics
• Route history and trip export features
• Compass and driving-quality display
• Speed-limit and speed-camera awareness (where you enable these features)

3. Information Shared With Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your location with advertisers. However, the App uses third-party services that may receive limited data:

• OpenStreetMap (Nominatim / tile servers): When you use reverse geocoding ("what street am I on?") or view maps, your approximate coordinates are sent to openstreetmap.org / Nominatim to resolve an address, and to tile servers to render map imagery.
• Overpass API: When speed-limit or speed-camera features are used, your approximate location is sent to overpass-api.de to query map data.
• Google Maps tile servers: Map tiles may be loaded from Google's tile endpoints based on the visible map area.
• Google AdMob: The free tier of the App displays advertising served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your advertising identifier and general location to serve ads, per Google's privacy policy. No location from your trips is shared with ad providers.

4. Permissions

• Location (foreground + background): For GPS speed and distance tracking during trips.
• Notifications: To show a foreground-service notification while tracking runs in the background.
• Physical activity (if requested): May be used to improve trip start/stop detection.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Trip history and preferences are stored locally on your device. You can delete individual trips or all history at any time from within the App's History settings. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Security

Data stored on your device is protected by the Android operating system's standard app sandboxing. Network requests to third-party services use secure HTTPS connections where supported.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected here.

10. Data Safety Answers (Play Console)

For the Google Play "Data safety" form, the App declares:

• Location — collected (approximate + precise), used for core functionality, not shared with third parties for advertising.
• App activity / preferences — collected, stored on-device.
• Third-party services (OpenStreetMap, Overpass, Google Maps tiles, AdMob) are disclosed under the sections above.
